People with disability

The VEC works to ensure the voices of people with disability are heard through enrolling and voting at elections.

The VEC’s range of services, designed in collaboration with the disability sector, aim to include everyone.

Electoral Access Advisory Group

The Electoral Access Advisory Group ensures our programs and services meet the community’s needs by providing expert advice and knowledge. The advisory group meets twice yearly. Membership consists of disability workers, advocates and members of the community. Please contact us if you would like to get involved.

Electoral outreach—we can come to you!

We can facilitate an electoral outreach session with your school or community group anywhere in Victoria.

Whether it’s an information session about how elections work, helping people to check their details and enrol to vote, or a workshop on active citizenship, we can tailor a session to your needs.

Capacity-building training for carers and disability workers

The VEC acknowledges the important role service providers and carers play in enabling community members to participate in elections.

We can visit your organisation to:

  • speak with staff and carers about the importance of voting
  • look at electoral enrolment for people with disability
  • provide an overview of accessible services available during an election.

Employment opportunity during elections

During election-time there are many casual employment opportunities. As an equal opportunity employer the VEC encourages people with disability to register interest in working in an election. Visit Working at an election for more information. For other job opportunities at the VEC see our employment section.

Resources

In partnership with SCOPE, the empowering film Voting is for Everyone (external link) challenges the myths around voting and disability.

It explains the role of government in Australia, and shows how to get help if needed. It is aimed at people with disability, carers and workers.
